BACK BAY INK Tattoo & ART

In the heart of Boston, Back Bay Ink was born in 2025 — the realization of a vision by Mark Vata, a tattoo artist with four years of experience and a deep passion for turning ink into art. But this isn’t just a tattoo studio. It’s a living gallery, where every design is custom-crafted, and every piece tells a story. At Back Bay Ink, skin becomes a canvas, and each tattoo is a collaboration — a moment, a memory, or a meaning captured forever in ink. For Mark, tattooing isn’t just a craft — it’s a way to give voice to personal stories, to turn fleeting thoughts into lasting impressions. Here, every client leaves not just with a tattoo, but with a piece of art that’s uniquely theirs.

F.A.Q.

How can I book a tattoo?

You can book a tattoo by filling out the booking form on our website or by contacting us directly through Instagram or email. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible to discuss your idea and schedule your session.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Get a good night’s sleep, stay hydrated, and eat a full meal before your appointment. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area you’re getting tattooed. Avoid alcohol and drugs at least 24 hours before your session.

Can i get tattooed if I am pregnant?

For your safety and the baby’s health, we do not tattoo individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can i get tattooed if I am under 18?

No. You must be at least 18 years old with valid government-issued photo ID to get tattooed, no exceptions—even with parental consent.

Can I bring a friend to my appointment?

You’re welcome to bring one friend for support, but due to space and safety, we kindly ask that you do not bring groups or children to your session.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Pricing starts at a minimum of $150. The final cost depends on several factors including the size, detail of the design, placement on the body, and the specific artist you choose. Some artists charge hourly, and their rates may vary.

How can I get a price quote?

To get an accurate estimate, we recommend booking a free consultation with your chosen artist. If you can’t visit in person, feel free to email us with as much detail as possible—design concept, size, body placement, and any references. You’re also welcome to stop by the shop and speak with a team member anytime.

How do I schedule a walk-in appointment?

We welcome walk-ins every day on a first-come, first-served basis. To check same-day availability, give us a call or send a quick text. If you’re ready to get tattooed, we’ll do our best to get you in.

Does it hurt?

Yes—but it’s a tolerable kind of pain. Your body releases endorphins in response, and many clients actually enjoy the process. Everyone’s experience is different, but we’ll do everything we can to keep you comfortable.

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

Initial healing takes about 2 to 3 weeks, though it can take a few months for your skin to fully regenerate beneath the surface.

Do you tattoo the hands, neck and face?

Yes, but these areas are considered advanced placements. We typically only tattoo hands, necks, and faces on experienced collectors or clients who understand the long-term visibility and fading risks.

Can I see my design prior to my appointment?

Designs are usually shared the night before or the day of the appointment. We encourage feedback and will make adjustments if needed before tattooing begins.

How should I pay for my tattoo?

We accept cash and major credit/debit cards. A deposit is required to secure your appointment, which goes toward the final cost.

Do you do piercings?

No, we currently specialize in tattoos only. If you’re looking for a piercing, we can recommend trusted local studios.

How should I look after my tattoo?

We’ll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions after your session. Generally, keep it clean, avoid soaking or sun exposure, and apply a recommended healing ointment. Reach out to us with any questions during healing.

How do I care for my new tattoo?

We’ll provide you with step-by-step aftercare instructions once your tattoo is done. Every studio has slightly different advice, but keeping it clean and moisturized is key. Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We accept cash as well as all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. We do not accept checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit to book an appointment?

Yes, we require a non-refundable, non-transferable deposit to confirm your appointment. This deposit goes toward the final price or your final session.

Do you offer private or off-site tattoo sessions?

Yes! If you’re interested in a private tattoo session or off-site booking, please email us directly at [email protected]
